not tried MTS, although I have them around in the tanks anyway, I have in the past used water louse from garden pond , they are excellent at eating fungus and dead eggs but leave the live ones. I also read that cherry shrimps are good too.
I used to have gazillions of trumpets before i bought some assassins. I cant really say they did anything for the eggs but I did notice they liked to hang out in the fry savers alot.
Doing some research on this now. Cherry shrimp as Irene says and also ghost shrimp have been used for killi eggs successfully, there was an article on aqua articles but the link is broke.
Hi all,
I've used Red Cherry Shrimps, Asellus (Water Louse) and MTS as "egg janitors" and they have all worked in that they didn't eat the eggs and I didn't get any fungused ones.
cheers Darrel
Hi all,
I'm with FFMK II on that one.
Alder cones are very good, they do the same job as Indian Almond leaves and if you collect your own they are free :woohoo:.
There's a recent debate about snails and bichirs whether the snails are eating slime coat on MFK and the consensus is that the snails are harmless which would make me think that they would be much similar on eggs.
Hi all,
Yes these are the Indian Almond Leaves "Terminalia catappa". They both lower the pH and add tannins, and are very widely used in Asia by Betta breeders etc.
The advantage of the Alder cones (or Oak leaves) is that they are free and you can make sure they were collected from non-polluted sites.
