Apistogramma Breeding Tank

Hi all,

I'm setting up an apistogramma breeding tank and need some advice. The tank is 40L which I believe to be big enough for a pair or a few females and 1 male? What would be the best sponge filter for this as I fear a internal will suck up any fry??

Silica sand, roots, oak leaves and some plants. Depending on the type of apisto, but some like 1M and2-3F . I used to prefer just 1M and 1F. cheers jk :thumbup:

in 40L i would just have a pair. females need at least 1 sq foot each, preferably more.

Thanks guys. I've had success before but struggled with thr internal filter eating fry. I've decided on 2 sponge filters so i can alternate cleaning and change 1 if i need to.

Two sponge filters is a good idea, using the sponges FF suggested, more here: <http://www.plecoplanet.com/forum/showthread.php?t=8493> but you can always fry proof your external filter. I just put a coarse sponge over the intake. You can buy them for Eheims etc. but I just DIY them
