Need I.D for a pleco

i got a free pleco from a friend a few days ago. I think its a common but im not sure

from what iv looked at i think its a female, but not sure. il post one picture, let me know if you need more to tell the sex.

the fish is in a separate tank because its not healthy, its being treated for internal parasites and the person said they never fed it.

What type is it? anything i can do other then feed it good, give it the parasite meds and good quality water to speed up recovery? ANd what sex? i can post more pics.

this fish is nearly 1.5 feet in length

Agreed. Cant tell the sex from that pic. The only relaibe way is to look at the genital papillia.

thanks. So its a common? he/she is already doing better, moving around alot more and the color is starting to look better.

Not a common but a gibby. Same family but different species.

yeah, please get him some good food, raw veggies, however he prob won't recognize it as food right away, so try an alage wafer ,stick it in the zucchini that is weighted down with a food clip or spoon or whatever. Hope he makes it . Please keep us informed. good luck .
