Can anyone suggest a accurate and durable thermometer (not digital/electronic)? Either floating or fixed, something more science grade and robust rather than cheap aquarium ones.

I seem to have a knack of breaking the glass casing, and then between the ones I use have a temperature difference of 8* celsius and 3* celsius between two identical JBL ones.

oh dear, I have only tried plastic once and it was useless.
i prefer the glass and have luckily not broken one yet
I would just buy a good one not a cheap one. I have several makes but they only vary by half a degree from each other.

I suppose it depends on how may tanks you have. I've had no luck with the digital internal ones. Bought 6 at $12 a pop and they all crapped out. I went back to the digital external ones. I've had some running 5 years and they still work fine. You do get the odd one that is not as accurate. I had two that were out 3 degrees C or more. Just test them with a more expensive thermometer.
