Stunning have you spawned them yet?

The male is displaying that fantastic Dorsal fin that sexually active males display outstanding .

One of the first fish I spawned over 30 years ago watching the parents care for the young was fantastic, I spent days studying the development of the fry.

They haven't spawned yet, but I'm watching them real close. I have a piece of slate now for them to spawn on. I thought the females tube was extending the other day but then it disappeared. False alarm! LOL..... I've removed the GBN's from the tank so that the young won't get eaten by them. I'll post if and when they spawn.

 They got busy! I wasn't ready for them to spawn yet though. I didn't have my slate in the tank, and I also have other fish in the tank including 3 large female ABN pleco's. They will probably make quick work of the eggs. Anyway, they spawned on my filter intake tube of all things. I put a prefilter sponge over the intake, but it could still probably pull the fry into it when they drop off of the tube. I'll just observe things this time and hopefully be better prepared next time. I'll have the slate in the tank and the other fish removed from the tank. Then I'll see how they are going to do at parenting. If they are not good parents, then I'll try and remove them from the tank and try my hand at raising them. The bad part is that I know very little about raising angelfish fry. I need to get busy doing some research.

We'll they failed their first test! They spawned Friday evening and when we got up Saturday morning, they were eating the eggs. Only a few had turned white from fungus, but they were eating the good eggs! I don't know what would cause them to act like this. I know it's their first spawn, but why would they eat their eggs? They weren't even 24 hours old yet. :dk:

I removed all the other fish from the tank and put the piece of slate in. I'm going to give them one more try at parenting. If they eat the eggs again, I'll start taking care of them.

P.S. - That was a nice article above on breeding angelfish. Thanks!

It's only been 11 days and my angelfish are busy with their second spawn. I was planning on giving them a couple more tries at being good parents, but if they eat their eggs again, I may have to take over on the next spawn. :)

So far, so good. All the eggs look great and the parents haven't ate their eggs yet. They are very defensive though! I still have some young pleco's in there, including my new L134's. I hope they will be alright. The angelfish are going after anything that moves!
