Just wondering if any one mixes their pleco's in the same tank and still manage to get successful spawns?

im thinking of moving a l202 pair in with a trio of l333
but wanting to know if they will still breed being with each other. ??

I used to all the time. I kept a hypancistrus with a Peckoltia or a panaque, never two from the same.

Biggest issues I had was feeding appropriate diet, the higher protein preferred by the hypancistrus was not so great for the panaque. Water conditions also come into it at times but it's can and has been done, and I am sure many others will/do still do it.

I am working towards species tanks in the new room.

Ok nice,

Im thinking of putting pekoltias l202 with hypancistrus l333.

Both have same dietary needs and same water so im assuming in that way they would be fine. Just wondering if they will still breed or not. And if any one has had any success doing so.
Thanks for reply and info mate.

So in general, do whiptails not view 'normal' types of plecs as a competitor, and vice-versa?
I'd quite like to keep a pair of L244 and a pair of whiptails in a 4' 240L community tank if they would get on.

generally royal whiptails spawn on the glass and plecs in caves so they dont clash with each other... but whiptail fry usually become food especially for hypans and vampire plecs...

but if your wanting to keep royal fry suck em out with a hose soon after hatching... dont normally get eaten till after lights out.. :)

alternately royal whiptails wont eat any other fry unless they are dead...

so i use whiptails as glass cleaners and food providers to plecs :)

Many thanks :)
Is this generally true of other whiptails as well?
I am looking for a Rio Negro species like Rineloricaria melini (dappled whiptail).

I keep L340s and L211s in the same tank. The L340s have bred and I just found more fry in the tank that might be L211s. Both need the same general conditions and foods. One is a hypan the other peckoltia so no cross breeding and they get along well.

Nice!
I have now 2 spawns of l333 and a common bristlenose spawn since I last posted 25-05-14, first one total of 37 and second yet to find out. I sold my pekoltia lineolas 202s today for a breeding pair of pekoltia comptas 134s. Will see how they go together
