are these any good?

Hi,

It depends on what your lighting requirements are.

The bulbs linked to will be of a very high specification and I've used and would recommend to anyone that particular brand in the past. But there are others available which are equally good.

There are two main factors to be aware of when selecting bulbs. First is the actual light intensity and the second is the spectrum output which determines the colour.

There's an excellent article linked to below which will give you the basics of the information which your looking for but doesn't actually detail the specific bulb your asking about and is comparing T5 bulbs as opposed to T8 but it'll give you an idea of what your looking for. You may even save a couple of quid.

Hi all,
"James' Planted Tank" is a great site and is well worth book-marking.
You may even save a couple of quid.
Certainly should do, I always use ordinary "day-light" 6500K tubes (865 and 860), they are a lot cheaper and just as good. If you can't get them at your local B&Q etc., have a look at "Lampspecs" or "BLT", they should have some for sale, they should be about £3.50 each for the 2' 18W.
