I live in a part of south central Texas that is located above a natural underground system of caves and limestone called an aquifer. It is full of rare and endangered fish and amphibians and other aquatic and semi aquatic cave dwellers .http://www.edwardsaquifer.net/species.html.
So our residents are lucky enough to get water from a natural spring loaded with minerals instead of recycled waste water (as long as they don't build any high nitrogen laden golf courses ) as the city was planning to do:wb:
however this water is nice if you are a human who doesn't mind drinking water from the tap or an alkaline water thriving fish. But whenever I setup an aquarium the ph comes out of the tap at 7.4 but can raise up to 8.2. in a few days.
I know plecos are tropical and soft water loving fish yet they like discus can now thrive in many conditions but,
Is this kind of water bad for plecos and other soft water cats like corys and tropical fish. I know the minerals are good in some amount since I used mostly R/O water and had to re-constitute it with a product to keep minerals going and avoid ph crashes
I guess what I am asking is are there any bad long term effects of keeping plecos in water close to 8.0. ?
