My platy popped out the goods tonight. :woohoo:
She has been getting pretty fat for a while now but wasn't sure because she had been like that before and I didn't see anything come out of it (they were probably all eaten before I knew about it).
Here's what she looked like yesterday

I was a bit late in discovering what she was doing. The first baby I saw was gobbled up in a split second. I have some rainbows in my tank and they were veeeerrry interested in her tonight. As soon as I saw that baby pop out I raced to find my floating breeding tank, scooped her up and put her safely inside.
By this time she already looked much thinner so I thought I was too late, but she had one while she was in there.
I then spotted another baby on the bottom of the tank hiding in the gravel, then another, and a couple more over about 10 - 15 minutes. Thank goodness I have dark and light gravel so they could blend! We eventually found a total of 5 babies in the tank, plus the one she had in there but unfortunately she ate one so I took her out of the breeder.
To make things even more complicated on short notice, a couple of the babies were squeezing out the side of the breeder so I had to catch them again and tie a stocking around the sides. lol. :fr:
Here's some pictures

Two you can't see in the above picture

I'll keep you all updated with pictures as they grow. Hopefully they all make it.

Good luck, they aren't too difficult to raise. If I remember rightly Mum releases a hormone that prevents her from eating them for around 24hrs after that they are food.

I remember when mine had babies, i spotted the babies around the same time as my danios, rushed off quick to get a net but too late, they ate them all.

Good luck with the babies

Doodles
I did not know about the hormone thing, we find out something new all the time.

Thanks everyone.
I still have five alive this morning so that's a good sign! haha
I'm going to pick up some fry food on the way home from work this afternoon, and maybe some fishes! :D I saw some marble BNs and Pepps there last time I was in so fingers crossed they're still there!

Thanks for the comments guys. I gave these few to a friend so I won't have any more photos of them.

Good news though, I'll be getting another male from that friend. A wagtail. My orange male had a nasty case of fin rot a few months back so I just wanna let him relax. lol. For a long time I thought I'd find him dead in the morning but he hung in there like a real trooper!
And I wouldn't mind having some young blood in there so I'm gonna give the guy a go.
I'll update this thread if there's any more little miracles about :D
