Beef heart to get fry growing fast?

I know in the Angelfish and Discus breeding industry beefheart is used to get fry growing fast. But I have read that protein isn't good for plecos, so how bad would it be to use beef heart flakes in B/N diets?

i dont think it is too bad protein in right doses but i suppose if you are like doing meat every day with no change then too much of anything is bad. With my plecs i have been using a mix of krill pacific ( thought i would try it one day out of curiosity and they love it ), cucumber and courgette, algae wafers and blood worm. and one day of the week i dont feed, and my bristlenose fry have grown like mad!

i suspect that giving beef heart on a regular basis to BNs is not ideal for their health. maybe once a week if at all. try peas, and other rich veg matter.

My objection to beef heart is that it is a "Fatty" meat and not what fish would eat in nature

Beef heart should not be given as a normal diet. Beef heart is flesh of mammals and this fat is different that fat from fish flesh. It can seriously upset the system of fish if given in high quantity. Some even die, such as L134 witch are very sensitive to this.
Beef heart fat solidifies below certain temperatures and so blocks the digestive system of the fish.

I have heard and seen that beef heart is given to young discus to grow faster. But is this desirable? I find that fish need time to grow just as we humans. I think it is wrong to pressurize fish into growing faster and bulkier. I know that a well known discus breeder in Germany feeds his young discus beef heart to get them growing faster for sales.... When adults these fish are extremely heavy and robust, just like body builders. I don't think this is natural anymore :wb:

I don't feed any of my Lnumbers beef heart as I think it is very bad for their health. I do occasionally feed it to my discus as a snack because they do like it even if it's not good for them.

Correct me if im wrong but I think beefheart is ment to fed be when the tank temp. is 29C upwards because of the fat in it. I have 1 x L134, a pair of L260's and about 10 L260 fry in my discus tank and have had no problems, but I do put other food in when the lights are out so they get a mix of food
