BIG Problem!

OMG OMG OMG OMG! My filter power head has just decided to pack up! i dont have a spare one as that is being used as a spare :wb:
What to do? ive undergone a big water change, and the fish seem a bit happier now. what should i do apart from get another asap?

the plecs have now started to hold thier breath, the go up for a gulp of air the hold it again etc. :cry: please help

do you have a air pump and airstone Jack? i would be pumping as much air as i can into the tank and depending on what filter it is thats packed up i would use filter media to make a home made air pump!

what filter is it?

thought ahead mate got 4 stones going. its a standard juwel one, i have it tbh. am getting an external me thinks.

if you have a old plastic pop bottle you could make a simple air powerd filter.you could keep your bacteria alive by using this in the air driven filter and also help save your fish.
something simple like this .

Have you taken the impellor out and cleaned it well? sometimes the impellors get stuck or jammed slightly.Try plugging it in and using a pen to move the impellor to try and get it going again, be careful as if it does start could pull the pen in, it literally needs a little flick to try and get it going.

If you have any sponge media from the powerhead then wrap it around the airtstone and hold it on with a rubber band. Rule number 421a in the fish keeping bible is always have a spare of everything.

while its plugged in? it wont move if its NOT plugged in.

yes of course, i plugged it in, it did nothing, so i tryed to spin the propeller, and it wouldnt go :dk:

have tried that, nothing. not good mate, lost a cardinal and a young panda

3 of my tanks are juwel. 1 week all 3 of my powerheads stopped working don't know why, 1 of them is even on a surge protector.
I had 1 spare powerhead, but not 3 of them though. It was an expensive week!
I now have 2 spares.
It's a worring time an I feel for you. I panicked as one of mine had the Zebs in and did not know exactly when it had stopped.
Hopefully your fish will be ok.
