Hey all,

In my filter area there is all this black algae type bits. They sit in the bottom unless disturbed and then flow into the tank. It's a 980T.

The bits are also all over my ceramic noodles.

Any idea what it is? and should it be removed?

If it is Algae, generally it is attached to the noodles or plastic filter. If this then is loose when you disturb it I would say it is dirt. It can then be removed. One trick I used, is to get some sponge, cut it to fit over the whole out drain hole from the filter, then disturb everything and the dirt will be pushed out and flow towards the outvalve and gets caught in the sponge that you put over it. After a few minutes, turn the filter off, take out the sponge rinse and if need too do again. Then restart your filter. cheers jk

Great Idea JK! I always add a diatom filter for a day or two after filter maintenence, but this sounds like it will work a dream.
