Had six 4-5cm Albino BN for about two months now, in a planted tank with guppies, pair of common BN, couple of L202s and red cherry shrimps, feeding general guppy food, algae wafers and zucchinis. Temp @ 26'C. Running an external Eheim 2026. Lots of wood in the tank too!

Notice one got a bloated stomach last week and passed away a day later, notice another one with a bloated stomach today and not eating. What causes this? And any advice? Is it just bad luck????????

Second one die this morning, no signs of Camallanus worms, no stringy things out the bottom, I have kept the died fish in a container just to see if anything comes out later.

Doodles! what do you mean by dead spots?

Should I treat the tank for worms anyway? I see a lot of members use Sykes Big L wormer, is it safe on the other fish I have in the tank and red cherry shrimps?

Does higher temp kill of parasites?

Dead spots can occur when there isn't enough circulation or the substrate never gets moved around. The 'pockets' contain no oxygen and the bacteria that builds up can release harmful chemicals like hydrogen sulfide The problem is bottom feeders are usually the first to become ill or die.

Theres a link here to article about Camallanus Worms and treatment if needed

High temps can kill parasites but not typically internal parasites

Too much meaty foods can also cause bloat

Do a forum search for Bloat, there are older threads with similar problem :)
