Hi,

I bought some Albino kribs (5) the other day and reading up on them it mentioned that a females belly will go red when ready for spawning.
After having a look at mine, one of them had a bright red belly.
I looked at the other 4 and worked out that i (may) have 3f and 2m.
So i've just finished setting up a 60ltr tank to house them in to see what happens.
At the mo they are in my community tank and are not really showing any signs of wanted to spawn.

Just thought i'd share that with you.

Thanks

J

Should i use substrate and half bury the cups?

Thanks

Great looking little guys.
I have never bred kribs, but any cichlids I have bred seem to prefer some substrate over bare bottom. Tank looks good otherwise.

Sand sand sand...please give them sand... They filter sand in there mouth to get food. My krib pair is always moving the sand. Grab a big mouthful then swims around spitting it out all over. Also will help feed the babies when they arrive as they will pick micro organisms from the sand, plants, ect. I use pool filter sand in most of my tanks..its cheap and larger grain then play sand.

Good luck with them, I got a pair of kribs and managed to get them to breed with no effort really so you should be fine, as others have said sand and a few caves is all thats really needed. Don't let any of them breed in the community tanks as they can get really aggresive, i learned this the hard way and lost an angel and a few others. So had to sell them on.

Hi,

Bit of an update.

I've added sand to bottom of the tank, taken from the 180l tank when i upgraded to the 240l.
It's in the last few days of being cycled now. (I started it on 2/10/11) The last water test i did the Ammonia - 2.0/4.0ppm, Nitrite - 2.0/5.0ppm, Nitrate 40/80ppm.
I did a 20% water change because the Ammonia hadn't really changed for nearly a week, the Nitrite had been like that for nearly 2 weeks and the Nitrate looked like it couldn't go any higher
