Breeding BN's when is it too much?

Hi guys,

I have just started breeding bns and was wondering if they are breeding too much, I don't wont to kill my male by overworking him.

There are 2 females and 1 male they had new eggs on the
1/1/10,
20/1/10,
4/2/10,
13/2/10(today)still has babies in the cave from last lot

There have been very low mortality rate so far. I have lost 3 babies that i know of.
So is my male ok to keep going at this rate or should i give him a break

I have a group of L002/ LDA 1 that is just one male I give him a rest every 3 or 4 months.

He will have eggs , wrigglers, fry and 3 females in the cave at the same time if he can.

The problem is that reproduction is such a strong law the fish will not stop.

In nature he has to find the female and compete with other males. But in a tank its pretty easy for him to get a female and reduced competition is also for a male a plus.

So just let them go crazy for a 3 months and give him a break. Sounds good

How long should i give him a break for? 1 month?

yes about a months break sounds about right, you will know when he is well fed again and active. I agree, a male doing too many batches gets run down and can get ill or cant care as well for the eggs, so he will appreciate the break.

If your getting multi spawn's, ie more than one lot of eggs in the cave try just removing the female every few months.

One main mistake is to remove the fry from the cave a male will guard fry fr around 10 to 14 days so he is rested and relaxed. Removing the females and just putting them back every 3 or 4 weeks is also a good trick.
