Hi guys,

I recently acquired a large (6-7") male BN <3, and would like to know what he is - I've a feeling he may be a hybrid of common x albino, but his colouring is very dark and shows no spots and he has white tips to his bristles. I would like confirmation please :) I also note his tail appears more "Stumpy" that my regular Albino male (confirmed 7")

Thanks,

Simon

Have you looked in the profile section?

The last pic with the white tip on the tail looks like a common Bn.

Healthy looking male,Congrats!

Edit..Was the fish priced as a common?

Hi Tony,

He was from my local MA who are normally very good with their ID's, labelled "Bristlenose Adult" and priced at £22.50

I think in the picture it is sand that looks like a white tail tip.

I assume he is some form of common, but the white tipped bristles made me wonder if he was perhaps a rarity :)

Thanks,

Simon

Sadly the state of play with the Sp 3 B/N,s in the UK is that they are so inter breed that they now lack any chance of a positive identification.

Much debate over what Sp was originally imported to produce what is now called the common B/N has been done.

I believe Shane of planet catfish fame did come up with a very good history so to speak.

I am pretty sure that he gave a positive ID based on were the first imports of B/N,s came from.
