Hi all :hi:
Yesterday I noticed my female alfbn, Had a broken pectoral fin..clean broken in half, still connected but very dodgy .
I have discussed what to do with my pleco guru, we think I should cut it off, it can't be reattached cos it isn't touching the other stump,
A splint, I hear you say lol yeah I'll hold her you come try to do that for me lol
So.. if I left it would it heal?, albeit crooked, or should I chop it off, carefully of course.
I've assisted vets in surgery in my day, so I am not going to cut anywhere I know will adversely affect her. just wondering what are your thoughts...

OH and whats up with that botty...dunno what that is :dk:

All done, I bought a brand new scalpel this morning and did it ..I used a skewer to spread out the fin and simply sliced down the fin bone, detatching the flowing fin s off the bone, It was 2cms worth of her fin bone. I'll add a photo later on..very easy to do with the right tools... she didn't even move, kinda think she may not have even felt it the blade was new & razor sharp of course lol...was all over in one minute, I dabbed Betadine antiseptic on it and released her to the big tank, Should grow back now, It would have been deformed and would have gotten caught on things if left ..So she is better off with it amputated :D I'll add a pic of the amputated part so you can see what I did,
She isn't ready to mate so will add her back when she is...Kinda think maybe he did it to her as he was chasing her off all the time...
I added the gravid lf common female in with the male instead..:D

Any ideas on her botty...

OK here is the part I amputated

I agree I would have removed it..... Good luck with her and her injury. Thanks for sharing your surgery pictures.

Update on her progress

She is doing fine, no infections visible, eating and frolicking about freely.:hi:
She does flare up at me when she sees me now tho, I guess it will take time for her to get over it ... She doesn't love me no more ...

My latest favorite shot...
Ying n Yang Bns
