Butterfly Plec with bulging eyes

Hi, I went to buy a pair of Butterfly Plecs today from a private seller and the owner told me she had a problem with one fish having bulging eyes. She didn't want to sell the fish just in case it died, she didn't know what is wrong either. As I had my camera with me I took a photo of it. As you may be able to see in the photo the difference between the two fish.
I was just wondering if anybody out there has seen this before or if there is an easy fix as I would hate to see the fish die. Sorry I dont have any information on the water conditions.

Some sort of bacterial infection is the likely cause. Clean water, maybe some meds should help

sometimes called pop -eye
lots of gravel clean and lots of fresh water, every day
can try some pimafix or/and melafix after the w/c but clean water is vital.
even then it is no certainty that you will cure it and it will die.

My butterfly suffered the same condition, the next day i noticed one of his eyes had actually popped and was full of sand - needless to say he died the same day despite my efforts :-(
