Sydney water have contracted a french company to administer this harsh chemical in our drinking water, Its been happening for at least the last 18months and it goes to say something if Aussie contractors wont touch it, Its great for us as humans in very minute amounts but like myself and others I do my water changes using tap water and dechlorinator, Might start explaining the unexplained fish Losses we are having accross Sydney.

A bit more research is in order

Brief description of the chemical

I know in fish It has a similar effect to Fluride in which long term exposure causes a build up of calcium on the gill plates intern causes suffocation, No Treatments as yet.

Hi Icrazy,
Sounds pretty troubling... Have they indicated any reasons for the CHCl3? I can't imagine any beneficial affects of doing so. Do you know at what the desired/end concentrations are? Depending on the ppb, it "may not" have an effect to humans, but as with most chemicals & new Tech, very little testing or studies are performed to assess risk on ecology or other parts of the environmental cylce.
If sydney water are adding it, I would be concerned about the concentrations and seeing if they are witin EPA guidelines. Secondary, I would be even more concerned this has not blown up in the general media.

I guess it comes down to the concerntrations and the justification.
