Hello All,

Please a lesson to all.
Today decided to rinse my large Eheim Proff 2 external filter.
When i cleaned and poured out the remaining water, out popped 3 baby cory Leopardis abouot 1 1/2 cm in length. Could not see them on the bottom as it was SO dirty. Tried in vain to catch them but :wb: lost them down the drain.
Next time I will use a net to pour in the water. damn silly of me. Feel so guilty the poor things. cheers jk

I always check canisters. I breed more corys in the canisters than in the tanks lol.
They swim in a funny circle when you first take them out but by the next day they've straightened up to swim right.

Oh MY!!! I would have never thought that they could thrive in there. So, if you don't open your canister filter often, what happens to them in there? I know this sounds like a stupid question but do they eventually swim back out or are they trapped in there? I've never had cories before, so I'm a noob to this.

well with Ls, I find that the amount of poo waste warrents at least for me every 4 months a rinse only of the waste. They would not be able to swim up against the current of the in valve. What happens in my view, is that corries lay their eggs all over the place and every now and then they also lay on the intake valve. When the fry slowly hatch or even the eggs get sucked up, some surive. The filter is a haven for left over food and micro-organisms perfect for first foods. The corries are a hoot to keep and I have them in each of my tanks. cheers jk
