just got all my clown plecs out the tank there is three pretty fat so i do not know if i got three females and a male if so he is a lucky so and so lol but i am going to breed my whiptails as she can not even sit flat on the sand and her fins do not touch the sand either - i feel sorry for her so i am giving the 45liter tank to her and her mate <3 i know this couple will pull throught for me i have had them two years and had 8 if not ten cultches of eggs

:hi: From your previous posts i think the main challenge for you will be to raise the fry :dk:. What are you planning to do with the fry as opposed to what you did last time? I would have thought a 45l tank was too small for an adult pair of whiptails? I have never kept whiptails so i dont know 100% anyone else got any thoughts on what the tank size should be?:dk:

ya but what whiptails r u thinking of cos some people call twig catfish whiptails and but i am on about common whiptail catfish and they are only in there to spawn the mum gets put bck in the bigger tank when she has laid the eggs and the dad is removed when they hatch and as for your point in want i am going to do with the fry - i will sell the fry but i think i will keep a couple as well just so i can see how long it takes to raise them and so i can carry on the bloodline

Ok i am thinking the fish are maybe 6inch? going on 2 fish being 6 inch id think it was a little small.

With regards to the fry i meant what are you going to do to successfully raise them as i seen a post where you said you had only ever been successfull in raising 4 of them out of all them batches of eggs?

As for carrying on the bloodline, surely thats the last thing you want to do, if it were me id want to put new bloodlines in for breeding and not carry on old bloodlines?

Cheers

the reason i only been able to raise four is all the other times they were in a tank with other fish and the eggs got eaten and cos this is the first time i am using a sponge filter also if i could get more whiptails i could but i cant find them anywhere else plus it is not always the size it is how you use it all my fish are happy and healthy and i know a few people use the tank for breeding

depending on what species of whiptail (sorry but common whiptail means nothing to me, sturisoma and farlowella are 2 very different fish), i might not be a good idea to remove the female, mine spawn every 10 days, so you might be looking at moving her from this tank to that tank on a weekly basis, the stress of this will stop her spawning and could even kill her in the end.

Rineloricaria parva and i do not want this to sound nasty but i have done my research and know it is best to remove the female as she will eat the eggs plus wants she has laid her eggs i never see her in the cave again

well all that i can think of at the moment is when i have done it b4 i have had around 50 fry they either died cos bigger bro or sister ate them or stucked into filter but i have changed it to a sponge filter i just wanted to know where i would sell them if anyone would want them on here i have to shops where i can sell them but one does store credit and they both will no take more than 10 off my hand

If you are breeding Rineloricaria parva then maybe you could provide details of your water conditions when they bred, pics of the male with the eggs and pics of the fry as they left the spawning site. Diet for the fry etc. Write a little journal for everyones benefit.
