Hello,

I know that the plecos with the large bristles on the nose are male and the adult plecos with no bristles are female... but what would an adult with either just 1 small bristle on the center of the nose or 2 rows of small bristles on the sides be?

at a guess I was figuring they were non dominant males but I figured before I throw em in a tank hoping to get them to breed I better confirm my theory lol

Thanks for your help

If bristles extend up the bridge of the nose toward the eyes its male.
I also notice that if the bristles start to fork, that usually means male as well.
It is not unusual for females to have small single pronged whiskers all around the lip line.

Sub dominant males can have much shorter and unforked bristles but should still have bristles up the middle of nose

I had a young male that didn't have any bristles til I added a female to the tank then seemed like over night He was loaded and became the dominate male in the tank
