I just bought 4 new Pleco's as Butterfly Pleco's but in truth I think they are Stingray Pleco's. ( Gastromyzon borneensis ) I found their pic on the web and mine are exactly like them. Do they have an L number?
I took pictures but; being new to posting I draw a blank on posting pics. I tried but it asked for an url. Please, if you have any info like L number, sexing, etc. I would be grateful. Thank You

thks foti that is a great link.

I am in the process of setting up a borneo sucker tank, as they also prefer cooler waters like the mountain clouds etc.

cheers jk

Here's another couple of really useful links for you bigbird.
Have to admit i love these fish. I now have 3 types, Sewellia lineolata, Sewellia sp spotted and Gastonyzon ctenocephalus
Although it is stated that they require cool temperatures, high flow rates and high oxygenation i have found this not to be critical in keeping them happy and healthy.
I have them in multiple tanks including a high tech heavily planted and CO2 injected tank and all are very happy and healthy, even at temps of 28C.
I think for breeding though they would much prefer a species specific tank set up for their requirements but for general keeping so long as you have good quality water they should be fine. Certainly they like smooth river pebbles and gliding in the current if you do have them in a high flow tank.
Interesting to note the very different behavioral patterns of the different types also.
Very interesting, active and amusing fish to keep and i highly recommend them.
