Weight it down. There are many options used. Weights, rubberbands to stones, commercial products (screwcumbers, etc), stainless steel utensils, skewers, stainless steel screws & other hardware.

Stick a fork through it and gently place on the bottom of the tank

I have the screwcumbers though, they are great :D

I use forks, the end of teaspoons and screwcumbers. Just make sure anything you use is stainless steel.

I use stainless steel eye bolts. That way I can tie fishing line to the eye to retreive it without having to stick my arm in the tank. Some are wary about string in the tank as it could pose a risk of entanglement thus I use heavy monofilament fishing line as it is far stiffer & less likely to bind. I also make sure to dull any sharp points & edges, should probably do that with any object you choose to use.

also as a trick, attach some fishing string to the bolts and then you do not get the hands wet ...cheers jk
