G'day all. I live in cairns , far north Queensland and we are just hours away from getting smashed by cyclone yasi. Just wanted to tell you that all of a sudden my 201s and peppermints have gone nuts with 2 caves in each colony full of eggs!! A bit of a rough way to get a spawn but I'll take it. Hopefully I will see you all on the other side, it's gonna be a rough ride!!

Great news on the spwaning !! An inconveinient time but sucess.
I wonder wonder if they know a cyclone is comming. I have seen in Documentaries how some species migrate days before a cyclone is on its way, Birds, crocs, ants to name a few.
Anyway good luck in getting through the cyclone and will hear from you at the other end. For you guys abroad Australia, I took the liberty to insert a link for you to see the synopitic chart of the area. No prizes for guessing where Neptune is.
Stay safe

Congrads on the spawns.

In regards to did they see it coming...yes, they can feel the pressure changes. Most of the plecos breed in the rainy season and one of the triggers is the drop in pressure. Its why if you are planning on doing the cool water change to wait until the pressure is dropping outside for that added bit of help :)

good luck with the wind, hope all goes well :)

had similar spawning phenomena before cyclone bianca fizzed out before making it to perth....

but wholely crap you have 300km/h plus winds coming your way.....
the eye of the hurricane that hit new orleans was 10km across.....200km/h winds
the eye of this system hitting queensland is over 80km across.... possibly the biggest and most damaging cyclone to hit australia for some time....

your gonna need all the luck and best wishes from everyone to pull through this one.....

they have predicted over 500mm of rain coming with the storm too... more flooding... its gonna be a huge disaster....

wishing the weather gods have mercy on you....
