I spotted a rack pleco breeding system on ebay and noted that the tanks were only 8 inches deep.

If you have a centralised rack and sump system, how significant is depth to a breeding tank?

Are 3 15 inch deep tanks better than 5 8 inch deep tanks with floor size?

I am currently planning my own rack systems so any advice on tank depths would be very welcome

thanks

Tank depth isn't important to the plecs themselves in terms of breeding. The only issue I could think of is if you needed to isolate the tank from the rest of the system for any reason (and I would recommend making this possible) than the additional height would equate to a larger volume of water.

Shutting down a tank from the system should be very easy as all you will need to do is stop water going into tank! I recommend that each tank have air flow best have 1 air driven sponge filter in each tank as well as the sump!
As for depth iv always wondered about this ?
I just know that 2 inches won't make any difference to the fish ie 8 or 10 in..
High but iv wondered if pressure ie deep water 1-2 foot deep makes a differents to fish size ?
So if I razed fry in a 20l barrel which is upright rather than a 3x2 footer ?
