Hello roydon...Have you been feeding them on vegies..If your feeding something else with high protein you might have constipated them, causing bloat...

bacterial infection?
i have had the same problem
shelled peas seem to work like a laxative.
i also was told to use metronidazole{flagyl).
and saved about 80% of my fry. even though you do need to be careful with catfish and metronidazole.
dosage was 200mg to 50 litres for three days 30% water change and repeat if nescesary

Do you have substrate on the bottom? Or bare bottom?
Typically this condition is due to a build-up of bacteria on the substrate or tank bottom. Increasing the frequency at which you clean the bottom and/or making more of an effort to keep the bottom clean will help.

It's not so much about the filtration as it is about the thin layer of "slime" that builds up on the glass. Tank bottom needs to be wiped/scraped clean every couple of days or more often.

gosh 2000, sounds like quite a few batches of fish rather than a one off. tell us a lot more about the set up, the water, photo of tank if poss.
do you have plants (they help keep nitrates and other salts down for example) some plants also give back up food if fry cant get to main supply. the fact that i get nibbled leaves on my soft plants tells me when I am not spreading the food about enough.
do you give any other food besides courgette and flake? maybe more variety is needed, squashed peas are very good as suggested above, also green beans.

Yeah I agree with the last few comments, if your loosing that many it prolly a bacteria problem..

i keep bare bottom tanks for fry no problem!

are you sure the problem is bloat ? most people will say its bloat as there bellies are full but did they float to the top? did they have crap hanging out?
were they eatting before they died?

i would check water as the foods you are feeding sould be fine for them to grow healthy also dont forget to keep driftwood in with fry as they need to digest that thin layer of film that builds up on it plus the digestion of wood also

Hi and sorry to hear of your losses, Irene is quite right, in basic terms with young fish, The trick is to keep the diet simple frequent and low protien in its constitution. The digestive track takes time to develop and even though you may see your young fry gobble up eveything in sight but they cannot digest it, and like making homebrew it will ferment in the abdomen and cause death as an example.

Many factors are missing from your question and an immedaite answer to help would be pleanty of water changes just in case the above is not the immediate problem but water quality?

hope this helps.
