Hoylake (Wirral)
My L134 dying/ill.

Cleaned my external filter yesterday in tank water as usual and removed a quarter of the ceramic media to set up another filter. Have done this kind of think many times in the past to give new on filters on different tanks a good start however, seemed to have crashed as today came home from work and tank was all murky.

The largest of my 4 l134's was dead and being munched on by my leopard sailfin pleco the other 3 l134 looking quite plump and all in the same corner of the tank near the surface whereas usually they hide near the bottom. done a decent water change and got the filter running good having also returned the media which was initially removed.

Have prepared 50litres of water ready for tomorrows water change

My tank is 4 foot by 18 inch by 18 inch.

tanks occupants are a small hoplo catfish approx 10 neons a pair of swords 5 guppies 2 loach aq royal pleco who is surprisingly perfectly happy a leopard sailfin pleco and my 4 L134 (now 3).

Not best pleased. Any ideas of a good Bio filtration. Was thinking of getting some jewel corner filters and sealing the lowest grill so that it skims from a higher position in the tank and running sponge filters inside one in each corner of the tank.

If I cleaned these very rarely and ran either internal powerfilters or externals would this kind of thing work?

At the moment on the tank I am just running the fluval external but have had the tank some years and the filter and this is the first time I have ever had a problem and gutted its with my L134s

sorry to hear of the loss Mike
I use Seachem matrix in my filters and pond filters.
They are extremely efficient. Also try Seachem Stability to cycle the tank faster.

sorry for your loss. I always run 2 filters per all tanks. At least one(or 2) external cannister and at least one internal powerhead or sponge filter.
Would suggest that you also add a diffuser for additional air and current for you during this time. Agree, I also use Seachem...cheers jk
