Hello All,

I have in my new rack, a 4ft aquarium which I fill with 1/2 tap water and 1/2 rain water.
This tank is not heated.
It does have an airstone in it.
I do treat it with Prime.
There are no fish or rocks etc in this tank

Now my question
Out of curiosity, do I need to have a filter in here or is it of benefit to have a filter in this tank ?

cheers jk

an air stone will be fine, you just dont want it to be still water, a filter will be pointless as there is nothing to filter, unless your just using it for mechanical filtration but there shouldnt be anything to filter.

I use a 200L barrel for my water storage and a pump to circulate the water. It's an Eheim model so has space for a tiny bit of sponge which I fill with filter wool/floss. I change it every month or so, it still manages collect stuff and turns brown.

ok might try just a standard plastic corner air filter. then get the wool and air for the movement. cheers jk

i use a 150L barrel and have a small mini filter, heater and air stone running in it.
