Hi guys,

I have a few of the above filters and they have been a real pain. I usually swear by Eheim, but these filters seem to be nothing but hassle.
Anyway, the latest problem is a leak which appears to be coming from/around the electrical cable. Now I've replaced the usual suspects .... the sealing rings ( prefilter and main casket ), 'O' rings, locking lever and safety adapter. Still leaking ! Now I'm stumped, don't know what else to replace. Anyone able to help me out here. The filter is on a breeding tank with breeders and young in, so I need to get it sorted kinda quick.

Any ideas ?

I would say you have a warranty claim with the offending filters if they are less than 3 years old ...You have done everything expected of you as a consumer...Did you buy them locally? or mail order?...I can find Eheim as a company a bit annoying at times as you have to send the filters back to the wholesaler for repair :wb::wb: What are the fish supposed to do in the meanwhile :dk:
The UK Service centre is

John Allan Aquariums
Eastern Way Industrial Estate, Bury St. Edmunds,
Suffolk IP32 7AB

If John Allan can't/won't help, let me know and I'll have a word with Eheim about your situation.

I agree J/A are a bit strange to deal with They have banned me from buying spare parts due to some story regarding warranty!!!
Funny when I first found Eheim way back in 1970 they were outstanding fixed any problem and were helpful sadly now they just seem to be obstructive and obstinate.

Thank you. I think I've had it just over 2 years now, I'll have to have a hunt for the receipt. I bought 4 filters ( 2 x 2073 and 2 x 2075 ) online from Zooplus. I've had nothing but problems with them which was really disappointing.

From my point and naturally it is not what you wish to hear, this pro 3 range is a night mare I have refurbished over 400 Eheim filters in the last 30 years. I did one Pro 3 filter never again. It is about the most frustrating filter I have ever worked on.
I thought the Pro 2 were made to defeat me but the pro 3 has never been easy for me to work on.

As I mentioned I bought 4, 2 x 2073 and 2 x 2075. I've had issues with the locking levers, safety adapters and now the leaks. I did buy them quite soon after they first came on the market, so maybe the problems I am having have since been resolved on more recent batches.

I have purchased Eheim for many, many years and have always been very happy with the quality and reliability .... until now ! I'm so annoyed with what seems an endless stream of problems I have emailed Eheim direct. Will just have to wait and see what they have to say on the subject.

Anyway, thanks for the replies guys !

Hi all,
I'm thinking of going back to basics and stocking more Classics
I like Classics, the water goes in the bottom and out of the top having passed through the filter material, they only have 1 sealing ring to replace and one moving part, the impeller. The simpler the better, job done.

On another forum one of the experts described any external filter as a
Pump in a bucket
and that is, fundamentally, what they are.

People mention priming etc. but it isn't really problem, even if you don't use the Eheim double taps. You let the filter fill up from the tank, without the power on, when the filter is full if water turn the power, on give the filter a couple of shakes until it stops rattling, reconnect the spray bar or venturi and then ignore for the next 6 months (I put a sponge on the inlet filter and I do clean this more frequently).

cheers Darrel

Hi Elaine
Just an update...Eheim are aware there was a problem with some the earlier models of the 3 series which was rectified by replacing the motor head unit with new improved units...Hopefully they will arrange new head units for you.

Hi guys,

I'm finally sorted with my Eheim Pro 3 filters !
Derek was spot on. Eheim are aware of this fault in their first batch of filters released for sale Feb/Mar 2009. The fault is with the priming unit, which deteriorates and starts to leak after about a years or so's use. They have identified this problem and have instructed all retailers who have these filters returned, to replace with a new filter head. I have been sent 4 new filter heads and am now quite happy.

Just thought I'd let you all know, as anyone having similar problems with these Pro 3 filters purchased around that time, will get a replacement filter head to sort out the problem.

Cheers
Elaine
