External filters and oxygenation

I am going to move my zebra tank to the bedroom (less traffic). At the moment I have a fluval 4 plus internal filter with a venturi that works a treat. However I want to move over to an external so am currently cycling a Fluval 305. I really do not want to use an airestone as it's going to be in the bedrrom and I don't want the noise.

I was wondering what others who use externals do for oxygenation? I can get a spray bar so can I use this just below the surface of the water to create ripples? Would this be enough? I know that you don't actually have to have bubbles to help with oxygenation it's the surface movement that actually does the business. As far as I know there is no venturi system for the fluval externals.

Any advice greatly appreciated.

As far as im aware there isnt a venturi for external fluvals but i modified mine by drilling a hole in the outlet putting a straight connector valve in the hole then attaching this to an air pump. It has alot less noise then a typical air stone and oxygenates water really well, make sure to have a one way valve in place though.
Don't know if that helps.

I have the same issue. I have a 15 gallon long in my bedroom that I set up for my new L066 grow outs. I got an Eheim 2213 in there and what I did was position the spray up below the surface and angle the holes slightly upwards to ripple the surface. Works great. Give it a try.

I also have an eheim 2075 that I know I can get a venturi for, but the tank is only 115 litres (25 UK Gallons), but I don't know if the flow would be too high, or do they not mind the flow? I can use the fluval 305 in my 200l comunity tank.

I had this problem I saw the light Eheim came to me and blessed me.

A Eheim 2224/ 2222 would do your tank easy and you can get one on ebay for under £40:00, the venturi fitting comes to around £06:00.

I dont have one undergoing surgery right now but if you want next one I get I will put aside for you?

Or you could use an Aquaball in the tank?

I think I've answered my own question having started to cycle the Fluval I see how noisey it is compared to the eheim, too noisey for the bedroom. I'm going to swap them over and use the fluval on my community tank and try the eheim with a diffuser in with the zebs. Yes Mac, let me know when you get one in.

Hey.

I've had a tank in the bedroom for a good number of years now and noise is always a factor - I can tell when its been a bit hotter as the water evaporates and the tank noise changes :) - anyway I used to use spray bars until Windy and Gee showed me the light... I'm using the Eheim venturi's on our tanks now - they add a brilliant amount of fine air bubbles and a good jet to move the surface - and are very quiet (loads quieter than normal venturi's)

The one I buy comes with adapters but if they don't work I just use a bit of hose as an adapter and fit it to the outlet of the filter.

Part number is - 4004651 - comes with 12mm and 16mm adapters ;)

Oh and tetratec 700 hose is about 18mm external and about 12mm internal

All that bubble misting doesn't make any noise? Can someone post a pic of their actual setup so I can see how this looks like in a tank instead of just the closeups I have been able to find online?

I made the change over today on the tank in my bedroom. Eheim 2075 and one of those diffusers. I was happy with the noise that came from my fluval 4 plus internal with the venturi fully open, but I was shocked at how quiet it is now. You really have to listen hard to hear anything. I am sooooo impressed, and I've never seen so many bubbles - I may have to turn it down..........but as they say you can never have too many bubbles!!

Thanks for the advice SmithRC

:imsorry:

I know this is an old thread, but i wonder if someone can answer me a couple of questions.

Ive got a Fluval 305 canister filter which quite frankly dosn't seem to put a lot of air into the tank, but reading on here people are talking of diffuser's, do these fit on the end of the canister filter outlet valve or are they seperate items which fit into the tank?

The reason i ask last night all my plecs were are the top of the tank struggling for air:cry:, so I quickly shoved a spare pump in the tank with an air stone attached which seems to have done the trick for now.

Ive watched the video on the thread and the air flow looks great,

can some one explain what I would need to aquire to solve the problem more elequently.

Many thanks

Mike

P.S.
(had the tank running 8 weeks and never used a canister filter before, hence the complete simpleness of my understanding)
