A few weeks ago i noticed the male guarding a clutch of eggs, but they where not in a cave so i can only assume the bred under bogwood?. Anyway the eggs hatched and i got about 12 fry which are now about 5mm. The only thing is there colouration, there not lemon but are a mixture between black and grey! I'm guessing bad genes maybe? anyone else experienced this?

Pics, Pics, Pics!

L144 is a somewhat controversial fish, you may not have what you think you do, can you post some pictures of the adults?

Congrats on the spawn

What females do you have in the tank? The male or the female could be carrying different colour morph genes.

Your right about this female but there's a blue eyed one in the tank also, I'm just not sure which one he bred with...ill try and get a picture of the other female.

I def think your 144 male bred with either a common bn or a normal albino that had the common gene in her, those fry look as common as they come, sorry.

The more I think about it the more its actually pretty interesting results.
In theory, the albino gene & L144 gene are recessive to the brown gene meaning if you cross a pure albino with a pure brown you get no albino fry but all the fry carry the albino gene. To get albino coloration you need a fish with pure albino (no brown) genes. Same goes for the L144. Thus if you cross an L144 colored fish with a abino fish you shouldn't have any fish carrying brown genes, yet brown fry came out. Interesting, need to think about this more.
