Hi there girls and boys
I was wondering if people with fish houses of some kind could give me a run down of whattanks that have, equipment used and the really important thing the electric cost plus any little tricks they use to keep the cost down.

As a great man once said "I have a dream" though my dream is far smaller than his and will have far less of an impact on the world,I have a dream of owning a small unit with tanks to breed fish and inverts in.

I have had a track set up for a threw months now and have nine tanks in total. so my partner has most of the work I would like to in the future run my own small business.
I guess it's a pipe dream at the moment as I spend most of my time in a hospital bed.but still stranger things have happened.

So I would really like it if you could give me some feedback thanks for your time cc

Hi, I have 13 tanks in total 11 of the in the garage. I've had fitted a insulated roller shutter garage door which makes a big difference to the temperature and also lined the roof with foil backed bubble wrap.

My electricity bill is around £110 per month but alot of that is due to all the electric my kids use leaving lights, tv's etc on.

8 of the tanks are on a John Allen tank rack and are all 2 foot tanks which are filtered by their own Eheim 2010 pickup internal filter.

The other 3 tanks are 2 x Juwel rio 180's and a rio 125 that are filtered buy their own juwel 600 filters and also an external eheim filter per tank.

Cheers Andy.

Hello,

Some of my tips

1. I have 3 x 5ft tanks( one when you go doen the stairs and one in the office) and 4 x 3ft tanks( these are on racks )
2. I have Ls and dither fish
3. For the 3ft tanks I cut styrophoam to size and glues all sides except the front, this for heat saving
4. All of my lights are now LED lights, much cheaper to run and also do not have a much heat as normal lights
5. I have eheim filters 2215/2217 for all tanks and have covered them in bubble rap over winter to save cost.
6. Plants I only have anubias and Java fern, Java multiplies like crazy so I never buy plants now just use the offshoots to regrow in other tanks
7. I have gravel/sand in each tank as I think is also adds to heat saving barrier.

Electricity costs are different from country to country, but I estimate electrical running cost for each tank of mine is AUD 50 per year

cheers jk

I have put off doing one as I may move to devon in a few years and i think i will wait till then.
I think the main thing is to insulate it incredibly well. then if you can put solar panels on the roof too it helps with the elec.

Hi, yes I am thinking exmouth or maybe sidmouth.... but will not be for a few years yet, as we love Norfolk, but also would like to move near the kids...
I sometimes swop fish with Scatz, he breeds more than me, well he has more tanks too!
