Flourite in breeding/growout tank

Im setting up a few growout/breeding tanks for some plecos, not entirely sure which ones yet as I keep going back and forth on which ones I want but as Im setting up the tanks Ive been debating on the substrate.

Do plecos do ok with flourite substrate? I have a few bags left over and was thinking of using it, plus would allow future plants in the aquarium if I ever retask or whatnot.

guessing its a variant on quartz or granite it should be ok. as long as its inert and does not leach anything into the water should be fine

It is a bit different, it is a "calcined clay".

I've used Tesco's "lightweight cat litter", in the UK which is moler clay based and pretty similar (although a lot cheaper, but it needs rinsing to remove the perfume) and it was fine, although it doesn't stay in place with much current. Pool filter sand is better and cheap, and you can still plant it.

Have you seen the article on "Java ferns on sponges"? <http://plecoplanet.com/?page_id=446> well worth a look, and a good idea for a grow out tank.
