A few days ago I bought a group of 5 fish sold as 'Giant Otos'.
I have been trying to identify which species these are, but after some discussion on another forum (sorry, I couldn't access this one) we have failed to find a definitive answer and it was suggested that this may be an undescribed species. Now PlecoPlanet is up and running again, I thought I would repeat the question here.
I have attached several photos of my fishes. I measured one of the fish on the glass and it was 47mm total length, the others are similar in size. The best matches we have found so far are:
- Hypoptopoma cf. guianense
- Oxyropsis acutirostra
However, my fish have a very distinctively pointed head shape which does not seem to match the Hypoptopoma or Oxyropsis shapes.
Any ideas or suggestions would be very welcome!
Many thanks,
Paul
