Hi all,

so im trying my luck at breading royal whip tails and am experimenting with food. I usually go for vege's and crushed wafers, but have heard of people leaving some drift wood in a bucket out side full of water in the sun and then putting the log in after a while.

How long do you need to leave the wood in the water in the sun for?
I used tank water (NOT tap) in the bucket, is this correct?

anything on how to do this would be appreciated.

Cheers
Brad

Hello,

Well with the warm weather at the moment, I get a large bucket, put inside tank or tap water and still use water conditioner for both. The I soak my driftwood for about 3-4weeks , place outside wher I get half sun and voila, covered in green wonderfull growth and algae. Even mosquito larva are fine and it works wonders. cheers jk

I used the same method to grow algae, in a bucket of water in the sun for a week, my BN loved it, however my one fish picked up bloat and died so I stopped the practice.
This might just be coincidental.

i think for feeding shrimp, there are enough good pellets around and I would use these instead of green water algae. I have never had any problems with curing the logs though. cheers jk:thumbup:
