Have I done enough?

Four days ago I noticed a big male L260 all bitten up on the tail. His belly looked pretty sunken it as well so that day I added BigL wormer and Prime liquid thinking that might help him a bit to recover.

Two days ago he was still very sunken in with the belly and I added skinned cooked peas to the diet although they were untouched in the tank and a dose of Kusuri plus discus wormer. I knew it was a risk with him being so weak but thought it might just shift what ever his belly bug was.

Yesterday he still looked no better so I did a water change and started a course of Waterlifes Myxazin for bacterial infection. I also discovered a big male L066 who had copped it pretty bad in the body part of his tail so I added him, log and all to the L260 tank for the meds and a little holiday away from his main tank.

Today the L066 looks not just too bad although he needs a few more days Myxazin doses but the L260 is dead.

I took some photos of the L066 (not so easy when in a log) and the dead L260 who looked absolutely awful with a dark green sucked in belly.

What do you think the trouble was? Could it be something nasty caught off guppies like tetra disease or something? I had been losing the odd guppy but thought it was just because my ph is usually just a bit lower than they like. If I buffer the water a bit to neutral, the guppies usually cheer up.
The other L260's mostly juvies, all look just fine.
Have I done enough in preventing anything else infecting the remaining ones?

:(

How long have you had the guppies? and how long have they been slowly dying off for? and how old are they?

Guppies in for months. Even new ones are quaranteened for 6 weeks before adding. L260 have been in that tank for at least 6mths.

I did have the tank drop to 6.2 ph a couple of weeks ago but I just added a bit of kh buffer to bring it back to neutral. Always watching kh as I use all rainwater and its very low ph.

The guppies? They sorta sit quiet on a leaf or the bottom and the next day they will be stuck on the filter intake dead. I have shone torches on them to see if I can see anything like frayed fins or white spots but there isnt a mark on them.
I stopped feeding a viformo tab in case the guppies were bloating on it and they just get a bit of veg flake and the plecos get hikari algae wafers and an occasional bit of cucumber now.

were both L260 and L066 in the same tank ? It looks like a might struggle occurred. Maybe the L260 was old and then did not eat due to fear or injury and just starved to death. I would be cautious about the guppies, as they are also dying, there might be some sort of internal bacteria maybe ? Sorry cant help further. cheers jk

It could possibly be something internal. Sudden and/or constant changes in water chemistry can trigger illness as the stress levels can get too low. It might be difficult but maybe keeping the PH at the level the guppies like might work out better long term. Just my thoughts.

Nah bigbird, I imported the L066 from another L066 tank. Figured since I was already using Myxazin for a whole 4ft tank that he might as well go in and get some benefit from it as well. It was a bit of a shock that the L066 got badly injured like that as they've never fought before.

3rd myxazin dose today. L066 is looking much better with no blood spots on his hide today. He has also changed caves from his log one to a Dee cave beside it.
No dramas with cave changing as I have twice as many caves as there are L260 in the tank.

The other L260's all look good although I can tell they are sick and tired of me looking at them with a torch lol.

Haven't lost a guppy in a week and they are enjoying a ph7 which seems to be staying on 7 for days now so maybe I finally got it right?

Hopefully the L066 will continue to recover ok and no more problems. If you do get any more guppy deaths then let us know and I would keep monitoring the PH
