Just doing the right thing and Introducing myself, on what I consider to be one of the best "Fish Forums" on the web.
I am not new to keeping and breeding Aquarium fish, and consider myself Intermediate, bordering on expert, I guess, having kept fish for around 30 years.
These days, I breed mainly Bristlenose cats, both common and longfin In all colours, but I also have had a fair bit of luck breeding peppermints, and L397s, both of which have fry at this present time, and are on about their third and second clutches for this season respectively. have been having a little trouble with the 397s and "bloat" and did lose a few, but I think Ive sorted that problem out. I often get eggs from the Bristlenose In the bottom of the tanks and simply hatch In a home made fry bubbler.....having mostly 100% success that way, but I prefer letting things go the natural way If possible, and only do this for any that have been kicked out. My main common bristlenose colony is large.....probably 12 females and 4 males...all big adult fish, and using plenty of bamboo for caves, which they seem to prefer. same for the longfins which are In a separate tank.
My peppermints are only a small colony...1x male and 2x females, but i am looking for more females to Increase the output as I have other males growing In a community tank In my loungeroom, but large females seem to be hard to come by...no one wants to sell them, or you just have to be lucky...right place right time.
I also have a newly aquired small colony of 333s (1xmale and 2x female) that I am trying to get going, and am sure given my methods, I will soon have success there also as they are the right size and the females are nice and fat....
Its seems to be mostly, dont mix with other fish, NO SNAILS, and give them their own tanks, plenty of wood and plants, feed them well. make sure your water Is clean, and at the right temperature range. Do occasional largish water changes, and most Importantly, no bright lights and leave them alone.
I have somewhat of a "green thumb' where breeding is concerned, and currently have 1000s of fry for this season alone. I sell many so they pay for themselves, and just keep the odd few nice colours for future. gene pool Is constantly refreshed as I swap consistently
They seem to breed constantly...once things are right, and they are happy
I also breed Peacock, fulebon and Electric Yellow cichlids, all mouth brooders, and have a huge colony of Black Bar endlers propagating In my sumps, as I believe they not only help keep things clean but put hormones In the water, and bring the other fish into breeding mode..
Really like this forum, and have used It for advice for a while now, so hope to be active and make a few friends.
Im currently running around 10x 5 foot tanks, all sumped and mostly In racks In my garage.....so It keeps me pretty busy, taking around 3 hours daily In maintenance.
Also just wanted to say, I am very envious of some of the members here and the fish they have...lol
Cheers
