Hey All,

I have been a pleco forum hound for a while now. I have been keeping and breeding bristlenose for over 10 years now but only doing in on a large scale for the last 2.

I jumped on to gain a bit of extra insight into some of the finer points of the more technical aspects of breedig plecos, got some L333 and some L201 that should be maturing within the next few months so i am looking forward to giving them a go.

I look forward to soaking up all the info you all have to offer

thanks for the welcome guys

what research do you mean? My PhD or the bristlenose genetics stuff I'm doing at home?

Either way, PhD is going really well, got about a year left and already been offered a job when i finish. Bristlenose research is going a bit slower, Adelaide tap water went nuts and I lost some breeders. Only just restocked so hopefully back into it soon.

Hi Doug, wondered why my BNs went a bit funny, didn't think of the water so I did some partial changes oops. didn't lose any of mine though, I do find it hard to move the juvies on though at this time of year, so much so that I have separated my breeding pair.

Nah, none of the water from the Desal plant is making its way into the mains yet. I HATE that desal plant. It is such a waste of time, money, power and going to cause major issues in the gulf. We push 3 times the ammount of water we need out to see as storm water and yet we decide to take the most expensive and damaging way to get it back. god i hate politics :wb: Oh, i know, this is a project that will trigger the federal environmental impact assessment scheme, lets pass a law to get around it. No worries, ITS ONLY THE LAST LINE OF DEFENCE FOR THE ENVIRONMENT!!!!!! Now they have cut corners, dodged all the data. Here is an example, the outlet for the Desal plant in Dubai goes out 6kms so that the excess salt is spread over a larve volume of water. The SA desal plant....25 meters!!!!!! ARGH!!!

The water will change as the flood waters make their way down. The pH and TDS will drop but the phosphate will spike, more so than normal. so its kind of out of the frying pan and into the fire.

Im looking to buy my own RO unit, only way around it and the waste water can water the vege patch.
