Hi There
I have the following:
L103 x 2
L181 x 2
Super Reds x 2
1 x orange bristle nose
All very small. I would not know if they are M or F? I got them from a very nice guy who was selling his breeding tanks. I want to breed Malawi, but the more I look at these fish I am tempted to try and have a go breeding these. I didnt know if you need more females to males?
regards
chris

Hello Chris,

It is very good that ,before you are buying any more, you are enquiring about ls and fish etc. Some Ls have different dietry requirements etc and some are not compatible or suited due aggression or inbreeding, so I can recommend that you do a little research before diving into this wonderful world, otherwise in the edn you will have huge potential issues.

The L103 is a peck and thus an omnivour, the L181 is an Ancistrus and thus a herbivour look at this thread http://www.plecoplanet.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1803

The others that you have at present super red and bristle nose are also herbivours. So be careful of the dietry needs on both and the possible interbreeding of the L181/BN and super reds.

Usually one can tell the sex apart when they are sub adults at approx 2-3inches. With these fish females are usually harder to get and are more expensive. The ration varies but most prefer 1M to 2F.

A few questions as well
What size tank do you have and what filtration ?

cheers jk

Hi All
Many thanks for the replies!
to answer some questions:
I have 1 x 6ft tank, a coffee table tank, 3 x smaller tanks and have just set up 2 x 4ft tanks and sump!
I forgot to mention that I also have 2 x white colouured ones with brown eyes ( I kept calling them albeno, and the girl I had them off was going nuts! They are a L number but I could not remember what she said & also, 2 x Ancistrus Sp. Rio Tocantins Bristlenose.
Anyone know of member local to myself?
Just about to look at the link
regards
chris

quite a collection! lovely.
I usually advise people who are new to plec breeding to start with bristlenoses, as they are a little easier to get to breed and good to learn with before something trickier. as you get into it you will find that learning about water chemistry is is the key.
