Hiya guys i bought a piece of bogwood for me tank its about 7inches longs 3 inch thick i have been soaking it since wednesday with boiling hot water but every time theres still always little bits of wood & muck cuming off and i dont fancy putting it in me tank incase it ends up making the fish ill or sumet ive never done bogwood before because i got a load given that had already been used

I always boil that type of bogwood for a round 6 hours as it removes the tannings quicker but when added to tank it will always release tannings for quite a while no matter what you do. Unless you have hard water, high ph fish, the tannings will be fine or use purigen, that removes all the tannings.

i like the tannins from new wood, so i boil it once for 30 mins or so, then put it straight in.
if you dont want the tannins in your water, just keep re-boiling it until the water stays clear/ nearly clear

are the bits coming off because you are still boiling it do you think?
maybe leave it for a few days in a bucket of water, it only needs boiling once really to kill any nasties
