If you can stand it I would leave it, its really good for the fish (lots of antibacterial properties) plus it will settle in its own time.

If you cant, then yea soaking the bogwood would work.

Hope that helps :)

Im the same i dont really like the tannins much i dont mind in my breeding tanks but not keen on the 6ft comunity tank the only way is to do lots of water changes and filter with carbon the carbon wont last long though it will prob be a weekly change in carbon, also boiling the bogwood helps a little but in some cases like myself my bogwood is over 3ft in lengh so its not possible, i just do big water changes twice a week on my tank.

I am in same possition as Rob.

Large bits of bog wood, the tanning does look nice but when its bad its awful. What i do is wc, wc, wc, wc, wc. The leaching slows down so just weekly change clears it.

I keep some in a barrel outside for waterchanges, but if i get a new pice put in in a tub pour hot water over it every other day, empty and repeat, till it stops leaching as much. Plus if you have a floating pice it gives it ime to waterlog.

Hi all,
I'm with Steve and Vickieandken, it is wholly beneficial. Soaking will work, but with proper bog wood it leaches tannins for a long time, but it will eventually clear. I top my tannins up with some alder cones (oak leaves also work, but you need a lot more) if the tank is becoming too clear.

Hi all,
You cant beat a tank with white sand, dead leaves, wood, tannin stained water and a pair of Apistogramma!
Lovely job, make mine A. baenschi.

Here one (and fry) belonging to Steve Chesters' (Ste12000)

and some Australian ones.

I don't mind the looks of stained water as long as it's still relatively transparent. Mine got really cloudy aswell as stained so I couldn't see many colours at all. lol
Did a big water change yesterday and cleaned the gravel so it looks much better now.

Hi all,
That is a quality video, trio of Apistogramma sp. Black-chin/Schwarzkin and Nannostomus mortenthaleri dithers. I'll try and have a look at the rest.

Tanned water is not really a problem, but if you want to get rid of it I use marineland black diamond activated carbon in your power filter. Should clear up in a day or so.

Cheers!
