I remember reading somewhere that they don't use murcury in them any more, they use something non toxic but you do need to make sure all the glass is removed

I always use digital ones, in fact we are going to have one up for grabs in one of the POTM soon :)

It's usually alcohol if i remeber correctly nowadays and even though it should be water changed out, the minute amounts that would be there shouldn't have any detrimental effect on either fish or water quality, the glass removed tends to be the most important part.

yup, agree, wash out tank. I also have digital ones, they are great and although a bit more expensive, they are worth it. cheers jk :thumbup:

I had this happen several months ago when moving some decor, as suggested in the reply here I did a couple of water changes using the gravel cleaner on the effected area and none of the fish have shown any adverse effects :)

I too now only use digital :thumbup:
