Hello everyone,

I have a 80 gallon tank that has broken out with ich. I have an oscar, another cichlid and a pretty large pleco. The oscar was the only one who was really affected. The other cichlid and the pleco did not have any spots at all. I have now taken the pleco out of the tank so that I could treat the water because I was told that clout would be the best thing other than salt and the pleco isnt supposed to be around either of those things. My problem is that how long can he ive this way if I keep oxygen to him and the ammonia and everything out of the water? I really have no idea what to do right now.

Thank You,

Amanda

He is in a very deep storage container. Like one you would use when you move rather than using boxes. He has been in there for about a day. I have done water tests 3 times a day and I have changed the water in the container twice. Any suggestions? He seems to be doing okay but I don't want anything to happen to him.

Thanks doodles! I have clout in the water right now and I know that isn't good for the pleco cause it says so on the box. Should I take almost all of the water out and then put the pleco back in?

Thanks

If it was me, i would leave the med in and put him back in. Make sure you increase aeration in the tank and don't overdose the med at all. Also make sure you do the full course. I have seen quite a few people use clout without problems but there is always going to be a risk which is why the warning is on the bottle. Using any meds imo is a risk.

The plec wouldn't be able to stay in a container for long and the stress he is feeling could be detrimental to his health.

Okay I will get him back in there today. I really don't want the meds to harm him though. Should I do a water change and then try the rid ich+? I don't want to take any chances.

Not a good idea to chop and change meds, if you do then run carbon for at least 24 hours prefereably 48 and do a water change before adding different meds. And don't forget to remove the carbon before you add meds again.

Good luck
