Hi All

I asked a while back about putting shelfs into my tank to make use of the height. I spoke to the lovely person who posted a thread about how they did it...

thing is they used glass and sealent- 1. price 2. i would have to empty 50% of my water

what do people think of useing things like this
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/large-corner-Frag-rack-200mm-x-200mm-perfect-for-holding-your-coral-frags-/280888258098?pt=UK_Pet_Supplies_Fish&hash=item41663eae32

has anyone used them in there tank for the intented purpose? Do they hold well?

thanks everyone

the weight should not be an issue. As far as I know Ls prefer to be down low. The old thread a while back did show that the person who used the glass did not have much success. But again as we say, just try and see. Would be a great idea for plants in pots though . cheers jk

I would of thought that they wouldnt mind being a little higher in the water colum? Theres a pic in the Back to Nature book that shows heaps of caves that have been dug in various places from top to bottom? Maybe a platform would be go simliar to a turtle tank?

with the rainy season the water rises. The adult Ls take the lower caves and the minor one the upper ones. In my view it would only benefit if you have say 10males in one tank and only 6caves on the bottom then 4 on top. It is worth a try though. Cheers jk

you can use bogwood with suckers screwed in it.i have one in my 75L,its got a fern growing on it
but would make a great shelf if there was no plant on it.

hey guys- thanks for the encouragement, I am in the process of putting up a rack of tanks and am going to be making some shelfs with suckers to keep the cost low. With the suckers at least if it dosent work i dont have to keep them!

I spoke to the dude who wrote the other thread and he said they used them to a limited amount but didnt give them long enough to explore the tank as he upgraded.

tick tock we shall see!
