Well i have had x6 L046 since the 20th Jan in my tank, been doing water changes every 4 days (as fits in perfectly with my shift pattern at work) tonight i get home as been away on a course for work about to do the w/c and upon checking the tank see my fat female is no more.. so look arround the rest of the tank and see her hiding looking a little scarred, check all of the caves and see the biggest male hiding in one and a smaller male in the one on the far right of the tank fanning like crazy.. quick shine of the torch and has a nice big egg ball in there! :woohoo:

i noticed that there was a bit of tussling between two of the males last week and since introducing them into the tank but just though this was them settling in and being introduced to each other and not fighting about who to breed with one of the females..

there appears to be about 10or so eggs which is very good for their first spawn.. none of them have bred before (to my knowledge) previous owner had them all from being imported at about 1.75-2" wild caught and were chosen from three different tanks of about 10 or so in each.

theres x2 definate males and 1definate female, x1 poss young female and x2 bit to young to tell...
I didnt think for one second they would settle this fast or breed, havnt even got my fry growout tank up and running yet! :fr:

will keep you updated and pics soon to follow, hopefully they will be fertile, need to get a fry trap made asap aswell... :wb:

Seems like everyone's having a good run with the Zebs breeding. If only I could afford to buy some breeders I could join in the action! lol
Congrats and I hope they all hatch for you! Looking forward to pics

There seems to be no fighting now, it was only for about a week since adding them to the tank...

Anyways, eggs now moved to a tumbler and are 14 :woohoo::woohoo: all seem fertile and can see the white bodies of the fry starting to develop. the eggs are so much whiter than that of any other pleco i have bred...

Another of one of the big males:

But i have just had some bad news, power is going to be out to my estate from 0900 to about 1600 on Monday. what will i need to do? filter will die and tank will get cold, can slow the cooling of the tank with duvet/pillows and hot bottles filled with water, and will do largeish (double usual) water change the morning before. but i need airline to oxygenate tank and also the main external filter to run aswell as in the egg tumbler...??

if your main tank is off for halfthe day should be fine just dont feed and make sure the night before you had done a big WC maybe you could add some prime

as for the egg tumbler maybe sould of left it with the father sounded like he was doing good lol jk you can buy batt powered air pumps its always useful to have one hand for shipping if you want to bring home fish from long trips or take fish on long trips

surely you can blow down the air pipe for half a day lol if not and you got time buy an old burglar battery take the plug of and connect it up i use these burglar alarm batteries for my 7 inch colour tv when i go fishing and the battery last 14 hour so i would hate to think how long it would run a air pump for hope this help

there was a woman on tv when just after the floods hit here and she had no power. She was putting air into her fishtank with a whisk. lol
she would just walk over occasionally and give it a beat

Well day 6 and overnight the eggs had hatched, 3 had died whilst getting out of the egg sacks and the rest had fungussed, but there were 4 little wigglers that made it and have now been moved to one of my fry traps:

I have managed to borrow a small petrol generator for the power outage tomorrow so all being well everything will be ok!
