l134 and l397 have completely different dietry needs, the 397s requiring wood and more of a fresh vege diet and the 134 require a high protein diet, them being in the same tank could result in the 397 picking up a peice of high protein concerntrated for the 134's this can result in problems. i would have them in a seperate tank altogether.

you can keep both plecs together if you wish... prob better than keeping 2 hypans or 2 panaques or 2 peckoltias together....

how big is your tank... 134's are omnivors and can be fed similar foods to 397's
and 397's dont seem to suffer from a feed of bloodworms or brine shrimp every now and then either... either way both shouldnt be fed meaty foods on a daily basis....

but if you have multiple tanks - one species per tank is best

If you've got the space and funds I'll go for the 5ft tanks, this way in future if you decide to house more fishes in there you won't be limited to how many fish compared to a smaller tank, just remember to provide lots of hiding spaces for them, the more fish you put into tank the more hiding spaces needed plus the more waste they will produce so just keep your water clean at all times.

L397's eat a lot of wood and the sawdust is hard on the canister or whatever filtration. You need to clean the sponges quite regularly with them. The sawdust isn't really polluting, just darned annoying.

It wouldn't worry the peckoltia L134 too much but they do like their breeding tank fairly undisturbed and cleaning sponges and filters is a little more disturbing than just a straight water change for them.

L397 fry can be very prone to bloat and need more wood and green sorts of foods than meaty stuff so if both the L397 and the L134 were to breed in the same tank, the L397 fry might all bloat on you when you feed varied foods to the main tank.

Putting them in separate frysavers in the tank might help.

Thanks for all the info guys, very helpful :D think i will go with different tanks for them as to not have any problems. Now just to make room and build another 2 tier stand the mind is working overtime with ideas haha

If you run a larger airpump you can just keep adding more airlines to spongefilters and airstones for each extra tank you add.
I had a 40lph, then a 60lph and now with about 30 tanks and 100lph its got tons of airlines off it and not slacking off in pressure yet.

I ran garden dripper tube piping around the whole room and back to the pump using a T piece to make a whole circuit. Then where ever I want airline I punched a hole with the dripper tool and added it in. I had a 30mtr roll of airline and its still going lol.
