Hi
I have a L144 Ancistrus with red fins.
The body seems also more red than normal.
Nitrite/ ammonia/ little to nil. All water parameters in range.
The fish is around 8 months to a year old with others ancistrus of same sp but just this one seems odd
Water temp 26 deg cent
Water change 4 days to 7 days 30% =100Lit
Tank mates: boesmani rainbow, neon blue rainbow. Treadfins rainbow, getrute rainbow, celebis rainbow, pepper Cory, albino Cory and a featherfin catfish ,Bolivian ram
Any idea what is wrong with this ancistrus ?

Assuming coloration isnot normal for this fish, coloration like that is usually associated with bacterial septicma or an internal bacterial infection.

would not hurt to treat the tank with melafix and pimafix after a 40% water change with warm water (to avoid stress of sudden temp drop).

redness at base of pectorial fins indicates something internal... whether it be something bad its eaten containing some sort of toxin or an internal infection..

i have albino b/n that develop red colour through the leading edge of their fins but never at the base... i guess this is the colour gene from where red b/n have been line bred from....

prob need to isolate the fish in another tank and treat.... pima/mela fix is a good starting point but one feels something stronger may be needed... check with your local fishop to see whats available...
