I wouldnt usually ask but im at my wits end..Ok i had one L173 female and every now and then she acts eratically.Flies around the tank and then sits flapping her fins on the bottom. Then she would go back to normal. But now i have 3 of them out of the caves and just sitting on the bottom of the tank flapping their fins.Im really worried now.I have done alot of water changes to flush it through since i saw this and also treated the tank.Has anyone come across this behaviour before?? its strange that i now have 3 of them doing it.Even if a cory bumps into them they wont move. They dont seem to be breathing too heavy and no visable signs of bad bacteria etc. Please if anyone has experienced please you advice will be very welcome. Thanks again..

Hi Scott,

Not good news, sorry to hear that. Has your tds gone up at all ? My young object in a similar fashion if there is the slightest rise in either the tds or nitrate levels ( perhaps a build up of gunk in the filter ). The other thing that springs to mind is worms, if there are no visible signs of any infections. Worming them won't do any harm and might just help ease the situation.

Hope you get it sorted soon as these little beauties are very precious !

when you say flapping do you mean like how the male start fanning in their caves ? or ?

A picture or video would be good to see cause to be honest im trying to picture it but hard to know what your talking about without seeing something .

hopefully its nothing to bad .

Seen this with new imports usually one of 2 things the start of white spot or bacterial both can be caused by a change in water conditions for an established aquarium with no new stressed fish be it filter under par or contaminated supply its not something that will go away untreated the flapping is the fist thing you will see before any other physical signs

Thankyou all for your responses.. We have noticed the tds has changed so have been frantically flushing the tank through. The filter will be claned today and more water changes will follow. They have been treated. @ catfishcray, yes exactly like when a male is in his cave wagging his fins. They seem to have settled down a bit but all 3 are still sitting in corners but there is more movement. They others as i say still seem to be unaffected. Will give you all an update a bit later..Once again thankyou all for your kind responses.

Does sound like somethings annoying them. If they not breathing heavy then its not something like gill flukes. Perhaps it is just a buildup of nitrates and the tank needs a bit more of a cleaning overhaul than usual.
Make sure you add some prime or stability to help smooth over their stress after the wc.

Just an update for all..First of all thanks everyone for their concern and help.We think we have sorted it.They have all gona back to their caves and are alot happier. We have flushed through the tank over the last 2 days with buckets of our RO water. Also cleaned the filter. We are thinking this could of been a nitrate or nitrite problem. We recently put some corys in with them for the time being and they may of driven this through the roof cos they are munching machines. The corys will be removed shortly.Thank gawd we caught quickly whatever the problem was..Thanks all once again..I appreciate it.
