My wild trio of L183 have spawned again but I found a clutch of eggs outside the cave and the male looks like he is fanning inside the cave so I am assuming one of the females kicked the eggs out so she could lay hers? I have put the eggs in a breeding trap floating in a little fry tank with an airstone running next to the eggs, I seem to remember reading on here that malaysian trumpet snail help to stop them getting fungus anyone got any information for me please ie will the snails eat the eggs if I put a few in with them? Regards, Bill

not sure about mts eating the eggs, but have you thought of trying alder comes as a way of preventing fungussing?

do you have the 183's in a black water set up?

Well done Bill, just make sure plenty of water flow over the eggs and hopefully they will hatch for you

Hi billyjimbo. I leave my common BN eggs with 2 month old BN fry, and they seem to keep the eggs free of fungus.
I have a wild caught Trio of L183 and they have not spawned as yet.
Please share your water parameters, feeding and setup information.

I have heard of people using MTS to keep the eggs clean and fungus free but I have never used them myself. I would just put them in a trap add an airstone and keep the water clean.

Cheers

I have them in a small tank on their own with plenty of bogwood, I believe our water PH is around 6, besides that I just let them get on with it, I dont do regular water changes, I do them when it looks like they need doing or if the fish behave differently. I must be doing something right as my L260 spawned three times using this method and my L144 have have one lot of fry out of the cave and another lot ready to come out. I will certainly try the Alder cones though, I think Jo has them.

Thanks for everyones input, Regards, Bill

The L183 eggs have hatched in the breeding trap and it appears to be 100% hatching, just have to wait and see now, looks like about 50 or 60 babies.

Hi all,
I've used MTS as well as "egg tenders", Ingo Seidel recommends it so it comes from someone who should know. I also use Alder cones, a lot of Cory breeders use them (I first heard Ian Fuller mention them) as an alternative to methylene blue. Jozebs (or TA aquaculture) sell the alder cones, otherwise it is a common tree along river etc and you can PYO.

There are some more "egg tending" options in this post. <http://www.plecoplanet.com/forum/showthread.php?p=58641>

cheers Darrel

I have just moved these babies in to a larger tank and underestimated the amount, there looks to be over a hundred now they are bigger. These are from a wild trio but my pair which is a wild female and tank bred male only spawned twice, first lot was a very small batch and only one grew to over an inch then died for some reason and the second batch of eggs disappeared (I assume they were eaten).
